We resumed our ASP on 9th January, 2023. Nothing new so far, and we are continuing with where we stopped last team. We have registered 278 kids and we are expecting the number to go up as it is rainy season and some kids are yet to report for the programs. As it is a busy term for us and the guardians of our beneficiaries, we try our best in making sure that we at least provide them with one or two school basics like ball point pens and exercise books. We are yet to do that.
We sent off one teacher volunteer to a technical college and received a new one who will be taking Standard 5.
Feeding program
We started this program Tuesday. With cholera spreading rapidly (being the rainy season), it was unknown in the early days of school opening if it was permissible or not for us to resume our feeding schedule. After some calls to different health personnel in our district and of course the board chair of LIAM, it was confirmed that we are safe provided we follow the safety measures. We will follow through last term’s feeding schedule and menu and if God wills, we are introducing nsima in our menu for we are soon going to be entering the hunger months, February.
Scholarship program
We are growing in number for out of the 5 students who incredibly passed 2022 MSCE, 3 of them have been selected to Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources ( LUANAR) to pursue Diploma in Irrigation, Agriculture general and Agriculture Education respectively. On 9th January, we sent them off to their campus. So adding to the 28 beneficiaries, we now have 31 students in various secondary schools and universities.
Agriculture
We are yet to finish the first phase with weeding and 2nd fertilizer application. So far the coast is clear, no weather hiccup. The workload has just doubled for we are now dealing with eleven acres of maize. We pray to God for a smooth season!
